6 Impactful Ways to Level Up Your Skincare
It’s time to revamp that bath (and kitchen) cabinet lineup.
When a new season is looming, we tend to think about the changes we want to make. Just as we turn our minds to cleaning, reorganizing, and redecorating, we may feel an urge to edit our routines. And going into fall, there are few better elements of life to review than skincare. Cold weather and holiday foods bring new variables to our skin health. Plus, it’s nice to go into the most social time of the year with confidence in your skin’s appearance. We’re here to help you make it happen … let’s level up your skincare!

EDIT YOUR MENU 1
To start off, explore one of the aspects of skin health that often gets overlooked: diet. The fall and winter festivities bring us candy, homemade desserts, and special once-a-year goodies. You should absolutely enjoy it all! But if you set yourself up for nutrition success, you can partake in the celebratory delights while still getting some great nutritional value.
You don’t have to change your entire diet. Just consider adding more of these skin-loving ingredients to your meals.
For the omega-3 fatty acids, which battle inflammation and can help to improve collagen, consume more fish, flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, almonds, and edamame.
To take vitamin C, which can help to fight wrinkles, up a notch, eat more citrus fruit, bell peppers, broccoli, strawberries, and kiwi.
Lycopene, which is an antioxidant that helps skin stay smooth, can be found in tomatoes. Add them to your sandwiches and salads—and anything else you’d like!
Get more vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that fights cell damage, when you prioritize almonds (double bonus!) and sunflower seeds.
Give your body extra polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants, by grabbing a few popular favorites: tea, coffee, grapes, and chocolate.
By the way, all of the above is backed by the insights of registered dietitian Nicole Hopsecger, RD, in a Cleveland Clinic article.

STOCK UP ON DERMATOLOGISTS' FAVORITES 3
If you haven’t already, bring some of the products dermatologists rave about into the fold. Even if you already have these incorporated into your routine, it doesn’t hurt to examine the brand and decide if another formula might be best for you.
Above all else, most dermatologists agree that the following duo is a game changer.
Sunscreen
We almost feel like we don’t even need to cover this one—please wear sunscreen!! Even in the fall and winter, and even on overcast days, this is so important. Also, don’t forget your hands. While we often wear long sleeves in these cooler seasons, our hands will still see the sunshine.
We love the options from Image Skincare!
Retinoids
Before we get into this one, let’s share a quick warning: if you suffer from very dry skin, this might not be the right approach for you to level up your skincare. That being said, if you don’t have that issue, a retinoid might become your new holy grail product. After all, many dermatologists feel that way about it.
Today, “retinoids” is used as an overarching term for a family of vitamin A-imbued products. The category tends to include tretinoin, tazarotene, and trifarotene, in addition to over-the-counter formulations.
As for the why behind using retinoids to level up your skincare, there are many! An article from Harvard Health explains, “Retinoids reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of collagen. They also stimulate the production of new blood vessels in the skin, which improves skin color. Additional benefits include fading age spots and softening rough patches of skin.”

LEARN TO GUA SHA 4
A traditional Chinese medicinal practice of using tools to massage the skin, gua sha can make you feel like you’re at the spa. It is a wonderfully enjoyable moment to add into your skincare routine—especially before bed, which is our favorite time to do it. Historically, it was “believed to stimulate facial meridians (energy channels found throughout the body).” In modern terms and research, it is said to increase microcirculation, which improves blood flow.
If you’re ready to purchase the tools, Lanshin has you covered!

TRY SKIN CYCLING 5
You might have heard about this method of skincare management on TikTok. But actually, it has long been a recommendation of dermatologists.
Skin cycling is essentially a system wherein you give your skin a break from certain ingredients and encourage a strong natural cycle of skin turnover. The term was coined by Dr. Whitney Bowe, an NYC-based derm. Here’s the schedule, as laid out by Women’s Health…
Night 1: Exfoliation
Night 2: Retinol
Night 3 and 4: Recovery
And then, repeat!

BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PROS 6
Last, but certainly not least, perhaps the most impactful way to level up your skincare is to make time for regular appointments with your derm and aesthetician.
Consult both professionals on the products you’re using, as well as when and how you’re utilizing them.
It’s also a great idea to get regular facials and other treatments with an aesthetician. Don’t forget, too, the power of having an aesthetician on hand for extractions. They can clear out your skin and relieve you of painful breakouts while doing very little damage.
Each of these is an impactful way to level up your skincare, but when combined, they can create a powerhouse of a routine. And what better way to begin the fall season?
